Dial up + IE problem

Win XP, Dial up to BTOW, IE v6 (I think)
problem: when you open the IE it starts to dial up as it should, but once it gets connected it closes the IE. If you try to reopen the IE it closes right away. Same if you 1st dial up and then open the IE.
Also it states that the connection is on (dial up connection window) when I opened Outlook it said that there is no connection.
Any idea pls
