Red face

Just updated my pc at home with XP pro.

no software installed yet and the system compat check says there's no problems???

My graphics card is a NVIDIA AGP (16meg). The problem is that when i change the diplay settings the screen go's blank (and stays blank) intil i power off and on again.

BTW all the settings are there upto 1600 x 15?? res.

any ideas, or should i just get another card? also i dont do games so a 16meg card is ok for my needs, i will change it if i have to.

Thanks

Steve

get the latest drivers for your card from NVidia......

That shoud sort out your problem - I've had examples of when XP saidthere were or weren't compatability issues, and of course, this was proved wrong....

Best of luck

Question

Have you checked to make sure the refresh rate isn't too high for your graphics card?

I had this on my mates computer and the only I could get round it was to change the card. his was a bit worse as you would get the logon screen log on and then black screen, foredver, even tried all the graphics settings etc and nothing. Its a bit of a ****** as he had a nice graphics card :-(

may be that there's nothing wrong with the graphics card but its the monitor that cant handle it.

have you tried upping the resolution 1 setting at a time?

Yes the monitor can handle res settings so high that the icons are tiny so i never usually have it higher than 1280x1024 this however was when i was using 98SE

XP has the setting at 640x480 at the mo and wont even except 800x600

Just finished downloading yet another driver and will give it a go 2nite. If that fails i will get another card £60 - £70 should get me a half decent one (and less hassle ) i think i may negotiate a 'works or return' sale

thanks again

Steve
