Cool

"Hopefully" moving house soon (still no poxy BB ) & wife doesn't want my servers in what will be the study - noise space taken etc etc..

Either they'll go roof-space or more likely utility room. Have to build a rack enclosure to go above washing machine somehow. (Moisture not a prob 'cos boiler & h/w tank there too).

Anyhow, that means that I "need" a nice quiet good-looking PC (or 2 ), so thinking about these Shuttle jobbies?

Are they any good? I'm thinking of an Intel 3.0 Ghz with a 9700 Pro - can they handle that? Lets face it, I spend a lot of time playing CS, so want to maximise the experience & do the best I can with a high ping...

How quiet are they? Or is the 9700 a noisy b'stard as well?

Going to u/grade my TFTs as well

well i know 2 people who got xp versions of the shuttle using nforce 2 chipset with a amd 2.4xp, runs fine but another guy i knew had a 2.8 xp chip and the shuttle box kept overheating! I not sure how well a 3.0 ghz processor shuttle with a high end card like 9800 pro or the gforce will be stable or not - i not come across anyone running a shuttle with a 3.0ghz processor with a high end card running stable yet becuase of heat isssues. BTW the shuttle is not as quiet as u think cos the fan are actually quite noisy - i would advise u to goto a shop who has one runnign so that u can have an idea on noise and speak to shop keep if the shuttle will run stable at 3.0ghz with a high end card and have it in writing. I was thinking of getting one but now chnaged my mind and get a hight end laptop instead - alienware laptop 3.0ghz here i come!

My Shuttle has an XP2600+ in it, with my GeForce 3 Ti500

Comes with a Zalman heatpipe, etc...

It runs at 36degC on a normal day and rises to 43degC on a warm day. Max temp I've seen is 48degC when playing a 3D shooter.

Hmm..

Prehaps not a Shuttle then... Looking for quiet really I guess. Space not too much an issue, but a bit of style too...

But I'm determined to do as mucn as possible to max fps & reduce anything that'll delay still further my ISDN based ping

i'll be geting mine from www.overclockers.co.uk

I know quite a few people who've bought systems and bits and all were happy.

I'll be going for the pentium ultima with 22" mitsi monitor (may be another one too) and tv card.

correction, I'm not going to get a 22" monitor. I'm going to get 2 of these:

NEC MultiSync® LCD1760NX 17" TFT Monitor (MO-000-NE)

they look lovely
