XP Home - problem with msgina.dll
#1
Try (re)applying Service Pack 1. msgina.dll is the "Microsoft Graphical and Authentication DLL" and carries things like UI text. It's fairly central to the O/S but some programs are allowed to replace it. Perhaps that happened on your PC?
I reckon (re)applying the Service Pack should sort it.
EDIT: you can read more about the DLL here if you're really interested. It's a whitepaper on Win2k, but you can assume that it's going play a very similar role in XP.

Not familiar with this particular error but if the above doesn't work I would suggest going to the Recovery Console (by booting from the XP CD) and running the chkdsk /r command. This can fix lots of serious XP problems...

As it says - new installation and I get the message that this failed to load. I expanded the original from the CD, but it still won't play ball.
Any ideas out there please?

Thanks for that, I'll try the recovery console bit tonight. The problem with reapplying SP1 is that it was included on the XP disk already (although I do have it on another CD as well) and I can't get into windows to enable me to run it.
I suspect this happened when I applied a Windows Update for Messenger. Typical, I had just activated XP too!
