Anyone recommend a silent CPU cooler
#1
Have an XP2000+, would like it to be as quiet as possible, what's the recommendations for silent/very quiet fans/heatsinks?? Is it also possible to get quieter PSUs?
Cheers,
Rik

this cooler came top in a test of about 64 heatsinks

...but make sure you've really got a noisy PSU. I changed just the fan in mine to a Papst super quiet one, and it made no difference to the overall noise - it was still v.quiet

I was alarmed today to see one of our PC's with an Athlon XP2400+ CPU running at 57degC Room was 22degC
I think it has an arctic cooling sink&fan on it. No system inlet or exhaust fan in the PC.
What CPU temp should I start getting worried at ?

dont worry mine has been at 57 for 18 months with no probs
i would say that 80 degrees is worrying
my friends runs at 70 odd and that is brand new. also has no probs
the max temp for the chip is mid 90 i think
even if you manage to lower it u will not notice any diff

Just received the fan, super quick delivery! Highly recommend wickedcoolers.
Fitted it, v v quiet. All I can hear now is a slight electric whine.
CPU temp stable at 44C.
Cheers!

Will have to look into adding an inlet and exhaust fan onto the rig, to assist with cooling.
In contrast, on a hot day with my Shuttle (Zalman heat pipe cooling) it runs 43degC for most Windows stuff, rising to 48degC for intense 3D games, etc...
