Just looking for peoples thoughts on this... how many pc's would people suggest a company can run in house before looking after them becomes a full time job for someone?

Input from you guys and gals would be appreciated.

Cheers,

John.

Also what applications you run/are expected to support, together with budget for servers/pcs - that & the overall technical ability of the members of your company...

I work for a building company, we mainly just use word & excel. We've got 5 pc's and a server resurected from a "dead" pc and a few spare parts (server is mainly to centralise file storage for backups, mailserver, and to share the internet connection). I wouldn't say the uptime of the pc's is drastically critical, though some of the data is (and accordingly is backed up fairly regularly).

The main thing that prompted the question (besides curiosity) was i spent most of yesterday morning solving problems with a couple of people's pc's, and got little of my own work done.

Cheers,

John.

I'd say you're fine yet, maybe 20 staff and you should start to think about it.

depends on the people in the office, quite often in small companies you find someone is quite handy and fixes some stuff themselves, and they end up as it being part of their job. Many companies also either have a mate who comes to fix it, or use a small support company wholl send someone out as and when is needed.

if youve only got desktops, then probably less issues too

Well we have a couple of "regular" octy 1.6 owners that usually nab lifts, we don't mind, quite fun to scare people on a regular basis! Besides, you always brought entertainment!
