Hi guys n gals,

Got a bit of a git of a prob with regards to this beastie. We bought a gig of ram for it (from crucual so it was all matched etc - registered 1600 memory.

Im trying to sort it out but if i put a 1 gig stick on one of the blades it comes up "unsupported memory" or something very similar. SO i though ok - it may need to be matched like EDO SIMMS of old so I put a stick (i had another identical DIMM from another 4600) This time it complained about only 1 bank being "incorrect".

On booting up it still reports 512 MB which is what it was shipped with. Any ideas ?

No Dell expert myself, but HP used to set the BIOS on the LC series so they would give you a load of warning beeps and grief on startup about unsuported memory if you used non HP DIMMS. Do Dell do the same?

Special Note (pdf) on the Dell Support Site about 4600 and memory.

Mentions that BIOS might need updating.

Rest of the manuals

Cheers

Ian

Crucual - very helpful chaps.

Apparently with these new fangled servers, memory must be installed in banks of 4.
