Freeserve broadband and X Box live?
#1
Anyone got this set up?
Freeserve broadband for pc internet access and XBOX live?
I know I have asked below but thought that this new title might bring about a reply.
I need to know if anyone on Scoobynet has this setup as I am about to get broadband asap and I need to know that freeserve is okay

HI DJ,
Did you stick with the modem provided by freeserve?
What hardware did you get to connect the whole lot up and how much did you pay?
If you could provide full details on how you connected the pc, modem, Xbox, router etc then I would be very grateful.
Thanks again.

I didn't use the frog modem included, but bought the D-Link DSL-504 router instead (£79 + vat).
My PC is connected to one port and the X-Box connects to another via a wall port to the living room. The ideal way would be to go wireless. The router replaces the modem altogether and negates the need to dial up. Very little configuration is required.
I'd recommend going wires-only if you intend to go with Freeserve as you don't need the modem and thats all you are paying for.
The only other thing you need are a couple of straight patch leads and the filter for your phone lines and you're off
I run EvolutionX on my X-Box giving me a static IP address and allowing me to FTP to and from the box too.

Cheers, thanks a lot for the info.
I am going to order broadband for £27.99 a month. Purchase the router you have recommended and connect the pc and xbox to that.
Is it fairly easy to set up?
Is there any settings I need to get the XBox live working through this router?
I take it that I would have no problems with freeserve going this way?
Would I be able to sell the modem provided by freeserve do you reckon?

Easy to set up Pretty much plug-and-play.
No problems with Freeserve except they will not provide support for your router if you can't connect. Pretty standard. I sold my frog modem but you may wish to keep hold of it in case you can't connect so you can plug it back in and call Freeserve for 'Support' . . . for what they're worth. Their support is sh1te (IMO). I occasionally get an 'LCP No Response' message on the router and can't connect, but it soon rectifies itself when BT/Freeserve get their finger out.
