windows xp firewall question

on xp theres a built in firewall, can this be used without a netowrk and broadband?? will it work with a 56k modem as a normal firewall or am i better off buying software instead?

Yup, it's designed to work with a modem. Go into the Dial Up Connection properties and find the tick box to enable the Firewall.

It will work, but IMHO get ZoneAlarm instead (which is free)

www.sygate.com also do a very good free firewall. Bit smaller than ZoneAlarm and faster - might be a consideration if you are not running a modern ultra quick PC.

Is this firewall enabled on ALL network connections or just dial-up. I have a weird problem with my Home LAN and I think my XP box is the problem.
