what os you running? xp?

do an "ipconfig /all" command from a command prompt OR run "winipcfg" if 95/98/ME.

Does the ip address and subnet mask match the rest of your lan?

Stefan

Tried another cable?

Turn off auto-negotiate for the speed too - manually set the speed and duplex on/off.

Has it been detected?
Drivers loaded?
DHCP or static? If dhcp, has it got an ip lease?

I take it your router's running a DHCP service. If so, it should make DHCP queries. If not, then either the drivers not working properly, there's a hardware fault or it's a physical connection problem.

Is the NIC connected directly to the router with a x-over cable, or a built-in/seperate hub/switch?

Are you getting a link light and activity on the hub or NIC?

Is your router a switch?

If its a switch set 100MBps, full duplex.
If its a hub set 100MBps, hald duplex.

If that doesn't work try every combination possible

Is the cable straight thru?

can you ping 127.0.0.1 when using the onboard lan card?

if not, try changing the irq setting in bios for it, may be conflicting, and getting the right network driver.

Talking

Like my old PTI always told us -

"pain is an emotion"
"all emotions are there to be enjoyed"
"how you react to an emotion is just in your mind"

that was usually before he gave us a thrashing for 3 fecking hours - barsteward

You sound like you'd get on well with him

A friend off here told me a saying and its really stuck.

"Pain is weakness leaving the body"

That really hits home and pushes me the extra mile, or extra 20 plate

You registered the new MAC address with your ISP ?

eg. Blueyonder Broadband users are allowed 5 MAC addresses

Just ring them up and tell them to add the new MAC to their database.

I've got an Evesham E-style which uses a Shuttle XPC box (Win XP, P4 2.4ghz). I did have a problem with the onboard LAN interface. It just stopped working after a few weeks. Nothing would work. Evesham sent an engineer who rebuilt the PC with a new motherboard. This worked OK, but it was crashing a lot and I had the feeling that I was being used as a gunieapig for a new release on motherboard code. Eventually, Evesham replaced the whole box (which was nice, as they put a 120Gb drive in it and my original only had an 80Gb )

So your only option maybe to replace the motherboard. The joys of integrated LAN cards
