web cam set up ?? what's needed
#1
Apart from obviosly needing the camera, what else is required to set up a "live" web cam.
Hmm. I think the mobile might be a liitle slow in updating the cam, being as it's transfer rate is only 9.6 bytes per sec.
Cheers

Hi m8.
Just been given a Logitech webcam as a freebie. With mine, it's a USB job, so I just plugged her into XP, it found it straight off and installed all the drivers.
I could then use XP's MovieMaker or Pinnacle Studio (I've got a digital camcorder for that) too capture stills or video.
If you want to put a webcam on the 'net', then you either need some capturing software or software that provides a 'live' video stream.
The first method takes a still picture every 'x' seconds, then uploads this to a website.
The second option actually steams live video at something like 15fps directly to a webpage. Obviously, the 2nd option is more demanding on the system your using as it'll be capturing video and taking up far more disk space than a still capture every 15 or 30seconds.
I guess it depends on whether you're happy just to update the webcam site every so often or whether you actually want to stream live video footage.
