make sure he's got a 240v adapter and doesn't just cut the plug of his 110v one. I would expect the latest ones to have auto-sensing between 240/110v.
Other than power, I'd check that HP offer a worldwide warranty.

I can't find that model of lappy on the HP/Compaq site either
I'd phone their warranty number (0870 010 4320) and ask them if the warranty international and why this model number is missing from the support website.
