Old software not working on XP
#1
Guys
Have just moved to a new PC with XP.
Some of the old software I have, typically educational stuff for the kids does not work now. Is there any way of getting these work or do I have to shell out for the XP versions?
[e.g. DK Learning Ladder 95/98 does not run on XP]
Advice gratefully received

It really depends on the individual app. There is a 95/98 compatibility setting which may (or may not) work.
Right-click on your app shortcut
Select properties
Click on the Compatibility tab
You can then turn the mode on for the app and specifiy what OS it should run on. I guess you just need to try various settings until you find one that's suitable.
If not, you could contact the software author to see if there is an update to help it run under XP.

I had this kind of problem on a neighbours PC. On loading the app gave a divide by zero error. Turned out the app was build on foxPro and needed a patch from microsoft's website.
I searched the boards of the relevant software to come up with the answer
