NT4 DNS Question

I've configured a server on our network to act as a local DNS server. All the workstations point to it and it's been happily caching domain names.
I haven't configured the server with a note of any name servers. How does it know where to look to resolve domain name queries made by clients.
This morning I tried to get to www.peteblandsports.co.uk but our DNS couldn't resolve this. So, I configured my workstation to use the Demon name servers and it resolved fine.
Can I configure the DNS server to use the Demon name servers to fulfill client requests if the info isn't already in the DNS cache?

Yes.
This is how DNS works. ISP's usally have a DNS server locally on their network that answers locally-asked DNS lookups. If the address is not in the cache, it then ask's it's DNS server for a lookup. If this does not have an answer, it then ask's it's DNS server for a lookup, etc.etc.etc. till you get to the master 7 root servers that are at the top of the DNS tree.

OK, so since we have a leased line connection to Demon already, their servers should be resolving the names for us already?
So, why doesn't it work when I don't specify their servers but does when I do use them (158.152.1.43 & 158.152.1.58)?

You are describing iterative look-ups (ie using forwarders) rather than Recursive look-up using root hints.
DNS is really designed to use recursive look-ups rather than iteration.
