Question

Just moved my AthlonXP to a new motherboard and it seems be running a little warmer than before, only by a couple of degrees but I'm wondering if I need some new thermal compound on it.

The heatsink just had one of those compound 'pads' that they all seem to come with now. Is is worth stripping that off and putting some decent stuff on ?

If so, whats most recommended:

Arctic Silver III ?
Dow Corning ?

Thanks

Can't complain with ASIII . just make sure you read the instructions as you have to use a lot less that I expected

DJ Dunk,

I wouldn't worry to much about which thermal compound you use. I've built two systems and used two different types. I was told that the heatsink and fan is far more important. Just use whatever compound you can get your hands on, it will be okay.

Yeah, remove the cr@ppy thermal pad and go for summat like the Artic Silver (use it in mine), or a similar paste and it will run cooler.

Only apply a thin layer of thermal paste though...

p.s. What HS&F you running?!
