how can i reinstall windows 98SE without formatting?

just put the cd in and run d:\setup.exe

This *should* keep all of your settings ( the graphics settings usually go west, but it's a trivial task to do those again )

If your CD drive is not D:, put the drive letter for your CD drive in place of d:

i did that...it doesnt recognise that either....
also my pc doesnt defrag...it stays to 0%

and start up takes ages...

just put the cd in your drive and let it auto start (if it does). if not go to my computer click on your cd drive and run the setup file, it will ask you if you want to keep your settings click yes and your away
