Got this in the email.
Do I believe it and delete the file or not ?

Dear All,

"A virus has been passed to me by a contact. My address book WAS
infected. Since you are in my address book, there is a good chance you will find it in your computer too. The virus (Called jdbgmgr.exe) is not detected by Norton or McAfee anti-virus systems. The virus sits quietly for 14 days before damaging the system. It is sent automatically by messenger and by the address book, whether or not you sent Emails to your contacts.

Here's how to check for the virus and how to get rid of it:
PLEASE DO THIS!
1. Go to Start, Find or search option
2. In the file 'folder option type the name jdbgmgr.exe
3. Be sure you search your C: drive and all sub folders and any other drives you may have
4. Click "find now"
5. The Virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT OPEN IT!
6. Go to edit (on menu bar) and choose "select all" to highlight
the file without opening it
7. Now go to File (on the menu bar) and select delete. It will
then go to the recycle bin.

If you find the virus you must contact all of the people in your address book so they can eradicate it in their own address books!"

>>It's this last bit that makes me wary of this ????? Help !

There have been so many of these over the last few years, and they're all cobblers.

A friend of my, who custom builds machines for a living, says these messages ARE the virus, in that they tie up man-hours and internet resources, which is what many of the true viruses do anyway.

I know he gets peed off with endless calls from his customers every time another one does the rounds.

Always worth doing a google search on files mentioned first, as it'll pick up references in the anti-virus sites.

He He,
this one has even done the rounds in our organisation in Kuwait. Bearing in mind that the majority of our staff are from India - there over cautious nature has led them to follow the instructions in the e-mail without question.

Our IT gut said that even if the file is deleted there is no actual harm to the OS - his advice not mine.

As Josh says, these things are classed as "social viruses" in that people are propagating rather than technology.

These are viruses from w@nkers that can't write real ones.

Had a call from my mother in law as she was half way through following this (as she had a call from my sister in law who had already done it) told her to stop.

These are the e-equivalent of chain mail - remember all the "You will die if you don't send this to 8 million of your mates" $hite !

NB Deleting the file won't cause problems for most users. If its absence causes a problem for you, you'll probably won't have deleted it in the first place!
