Question

a lot of mixed results i believe... seem to be ok on non-overclocked chips in well ventilated cases..

yeah, I heard much the same. Good for low heat producing chips in standard ( non clocked ) configs.

I don't overclock anymore - left all that behind a couple of years ago!

Just want a nice quiet rig that will run my apps and the odd game.

Athlon 1.33GHz
GF3Ti500
1GB PC2700
SBLive!
U160 TWIN SCSIs

Loud Cooling fans currently pi$$ing me off!

I've got 3 of these in various machines and they are very quiet. Recommended.

Yeah - I ordered one of these today from Overclockers UK. I'm going to run it on a Thoroughbred Athlon 1700+, but it's specced to cool much hotter chips than that (including a 2600+ according to OcUK).

Lovely - gonna put an order in for one now.

Now, do I go for a nice Llan-Li case to go with it ?

Just seen these on overlockers and I really fancy one!

Anyone got one ?

Toms Hardware review:
There's no reason at all why the new Shuttle Mini PC should have any worse a showing than rival products in terms of performance and ergonomics. In a nutshell, it's a real performance monster in a small package - even die-hard big tower fans will have to give this baby a second look.

Yup, one of the Steve's on here has the SN41G2 and it's top of my shopping list right now.

http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDE2 is another good indepth review that's convinced me to retire a noisy full tower and go small.

Those Zalman heatsinks have been around getting on for 2 years now! Anything upto a xp2000 I would use it no problems with proper thermal goop used instead of a heatpad.

Had loads of those, just remember to clean the dust bunnies out everyfew months

Cheers,

Nick

I've got a Lian Li PC60-USB case. I've still not found a better built case. Expensive, but good value IMHO.

Totally understand a modder / overclockers going for a big well designed well ventilated case like the llan-li, but I've always wanted to 'downsize' like this and maybe have it sit on my desk. I think I'm gonna have to buy one.

That SN41G2 is mine

Running it with an XP2600+ , 512M of corsair 2700 and a connect3d Radeon9500 it's as smooth as you like.

In true scoobynet style I have modded mine a little, the stock sunon heatsink fan was swapped for an 80mm papst ( too little airflow ) then a YStech 80mm job that is better and no louder, and I am going to swap the psu and northbridge fans for quieter YStech 40x40x10 versions when I get round to it. I'm also going to mod the case to improve airflow for the gfx card and the heatpipe.

When I get some spare cash I am going to replace the current CD-RW drive with a DVD-RW ( pioneer probably )

Nothing would tempt me back to a tower now. This is quicker, quieter and looks the dogs ... and the power led is blue

That may well be a cute and compact package, but, I assure you, my latest project is big, bold and bloody beautiful

Just a shame that it took so long waiting for all of the bits to be made/arrive that now I have the parts, I have lost interest for the time being

Cheers,

Nick

Steve - thats just what I needed to hear. Just going over the specs of the mainboard now, prior to ordering.

One thing is confusing me - it uses the MCP-T NFORCE2 southbridge, which I thought included the audio chip. Why do they list a Realtek audio chip in this case ?

Steve - any chance of some pics of the unit sitting on your desk? Just want a sense of scale.

Where did you buy yours ?

The southbridge just uses the realtek chip to handoff the processing as I recall.

I got mine from overclockers. Good service as I had a psu that went pop and they rma'd it and I was running again in a couple of days.

I'll have to dig out the digi camera to get you a pic /me scratches head .. now where did I see it last....
