I have been offered the above, unused with the following spec:

2 x 1.4GHz Procs
256 MB Ram
2 x 18.2GB HDD
All boxed, manuals etc for £600
No O/S though!

Good deal or not?

Its a good deal if you have a use for a 1U server, not the sort of thing you would want to sit on your desk.

At £600 I'd be tempted.

The server will be racked so no worries there. I am going to try and run Vmware GSX Server on it. I should be able to boost the Ram to 1Gb.

I also have been offered a similar specced DL380 G2 with a DLT 40/80 in it for a few hundred more. I am also quite tempted with this.

I like the fact that it is 1U so probably won't have both.

Ok, got the server today. Added the Ram, plugged in the two drives and all is great. However, call me a wuss if you wish but the server is just too loud It isn't in a computer room but in a office environment. This server along with the other kit is too much for the office.

Cool

Oakers

First dibs on this if you decide to pass onto pastures new

Also the other one!

I'm doing the networking for a startup & the word "budget" isn't used anywhere

Until they get up & running, then kit like that is well worth it!

We do have a nice Compaq Rack Case & lots of racking bits

Got a nice 8ft high rack they will never fill & might sell! LOL!

Serious enquiry
