Question

One APG and one PCI?

I've got a Nvidia TNT2 in the APG slot at the moment, and one of my favorite games has support for Voodoo only. I don't want to take out the TNT2 and have seen a Voodoo3 PCI for sale. Can I install them both? Will it cause any problems with Win98SE?

Why not buy a card such as the ATI 9000 pro which will do dual monitor support AND be quicker than a cronky old TNT?

Because the game I want to play only supports Voodoo. I know it seems like a lot to do for an old game, but it really is great. I just want to experiance the improvments that they added for 3dfx.

Get an old PC for 200 quid and buy a new graphics card, mr skinflint

I used to run an AGP ATI all in wonder pro and 2XSLI'd voodoo 2's on my old P2 400. I just connected the monitor to the Voodoo 2 and forgot about the ATI card. Worked just fine.

Naaa, I don't want to spend any money on an old PC. I can pick up a Voodoo3 for about 15 quid. Anyway, I need to save up to upgrade my kit for video edditing (new second HD, WinXP and a DVD writer)

Unless someone has an old Voodoo3 they want to donate...

I don't know that much about Windows really but I do seem to remember seeing somewhere you could have hardware profiles (it was win2k pro), maybe you can play with that? I didn't look into it I must admit because I was looking for something else, but I took it to mean you could have various different hardware setups on the same machine, with some stuff disabled/some not etc. Anyone know any more?

Steve.

I run 2 cards in one of my pc's, a agp card and a pci card. But this is under XP.

98 is supposed to support multimonitors. But I think if you want to play games on a certain card, then you have to tell windows to change your primary display to the other card....

Cool

Andrew,

The game is I-War A very cool space sim game. It's been out a while, but I really like it.

HHxx,

Thanks for the tip. I guess the only way to see if it works is to give it a go.

Looks like I may not need a new card after all. I've done a bit of searching and found some "wrappers" that fool the game into thinking the card I have is a Voodoo one. I'll have to try this on my home PC to see if it actually works

Bloody hell, I thought I was about the only person to play that game, was great fun, even in software rendering. You played I-war2 (Edge of Chaos)?

Nimbus, the wrappers whilst being pretty cool back in the day and possibly nowadays too, can take a pretty serious performance hit, especially on an older card like that. Why don't you consider killing 2 birds with one stone?

Get a nice card at a bargain price which completely stomps your tnt into submission and then run the wrapper on that? Way less performance hit.

Just saying because I stumbled acros this on special offer today:

Hope helps,

Cheers,

Andrew,

No, not played I-War 3 yet. Got the demo, but not really got into it.

Nick,

Unfortunalty, I can not get any of the wrappers I've found yet to work. Looks like I may have to try and get the actual card. Thanks for the link to the other AGP card, but I don't know if it will work on this either.

Oh well
