Question

To restrict what?

Restrict users from using the Internet?
Restrict particular websites?
Restrict Internet access dependant on groups/departments/locations?

You get the idea!

We use Sonicwalls with the content filter to stop then from getting to dodgy sites, and Surfcontrol to monitor where they have been. It's amazing that it never shows where I have been

sorry for being so vague,

network has around 40 machines mainly 98

router is going in, so i reckon to stop access to xx machines they don't get the router IP,

but for the machine that get access i want to

control surfing (ie the standard dodgy stuff)

monitor who and what they were in at...

small server running WINS thats about it (feeds email service on a non exchange flavour)

thanks

Jase,

Only give machines that need Internet access the router/firewall address.

Stick in a firewall, you don't need to spend loads of cash get something like a 3Com with a built in content filter, it is virtually the same kit as the more expensive SonicWall.

Watch out with Surfcontrol, we use it and it really needs a dedicated PC to work properly in my experience.

Websense it quite a good product, basically a URL filter that sits on top of a proxy server. We use it at work and its very effective.

The company I work for will be able to help with supply/install/advise.
