X-box Live and wireless network
#1
I quite fancy having a bash at the X-box live stuff - but the Xbox is upstairs and the PC downstairs. I don't want to run any cables between the two so does anyone know if a wireless network would work (and what I would need)?
Cheers,
Posh

Didn't go for the wireless setup in the end but yes, they do work. You need a wireless router near the xbox (£100ish) and a wireless pci card in your pc (£60ish).
Prices are what made me settle for a £50 router and a long cable that comes out and downstairs when I'm moto gp'ing

Yup - I've done this with the Linksys kit.
Mine is the other way round, PC upstairs and Xbox downstairs.
I've used the BEFSW114-v2 (I think, something like that anyway) - which is a broadband access router, with integral 4 port 10/100 switch and wireless. The switch ability of this drives my 'upstairs' network and it works well - configed via HTTP
Downstairs, behind the TV, I have an 8 port 10/100 switch with a Tivo and Xbox plugged into it - and then a WET11 wireless bridge which provides the uplink to the wireless access point.
This works well, and the linksys kit is specifically pushed by MS and Linksys as being an approved connection method for Xbox live. It's also relatively cheap (both boxes cost me about 200) compared with some of the other 802.11 kit around.
I use mine for XboxConnect (xbconnect.com) as I really MUST play Halo online... and it's obviously a fully supported connection method for xbconnect as well.
