Question

Need help here guys, - I want to add more h/drives but have no more IDE slots on the board. if I get a PCI ATA 133 add on card, how do I set up the drives? I have at the moment, a removable drive as the Primary Master and another as the Secondary slave (both slots also carry CD and DVD drive) Would the extra add-on drives be slaves also?

I would either swap Hard drive for a larger, or get a scsi card,
and uses scsi drives.
Get a scsi pci card...

On IDE for any given channel, the can be a master drive and a slave drive.

If you buy a PCI IDE card, then assuming you are buying a dual channel card, i.e 2 connectors on, then you can run 4 more drives. 2 on each connector.

I run a Promise controller under WinXP Pro, so I can have 8 IDE devices in total. It has also worked fine under Win2k.

Be aware that these add-on cards may not support other devices like cd drives... Mine only support hard drives.

Does this help?

H

hope you have a half decent power supply m8, coz the standars 350 watt aint gonna hold up to a shed load more drives. if it was me i would just buy a bigger drive and throw the stuff across. 120Gig for around £100 quid cant be bad.

Cool

I have a 550 watt psu, so I don't think that a couple more drives will be much of a problem. Thanks HH, I'll try what you said. I know that it would be easier to slap in a 120 gig drive but I have a couple of new 10 and 20 gig h/ds lying about so I thought I may as well use them
