DV camcorder+my PC=blue screen of death.............why oh why!

Every time i go to download pics from camcorder mem sick i get the blue screen of death,saying something about dumping physical memory...............now im using my USB for this(no firewire im afraid),and the camcorder is the Sony TRV18E and the software im using is the PIXELA freebie crap!
now i maybe totally wrong i put down to my power supply(360w),or will firewire be the answer..............or better software.
my system is:
AMD XP2200+
512 ddr 2700
120 gig hdd
etc etc
anyone know whats up?
