If I get broadband fitted into my room at home, can I network another PC to the one that has the broadband connection so they can both use it?

Yes

Depending on your budget you can go for a router and each PC would need a network card or connect your two pcs back to back with network cards and use windows ICS (Internet Connect Sharing).

1 x ISP supplied USB modem
2 x NIC's = £10 approx each
1 x Cross Over cable = £1

1 x ISP supplied Ethernet/USB modem
2 x NIC's = £10 approx each

Router for ADSL Broadband
2 x NIC's = £10 approx each
1 x Router = £90 approx

You do get what you pay for though....

for that option you are tied to ICS (which can be a bit sh*t) and you will need personal f/w software on the ICS machine - you really dont want to leave your PC permanently connected to the internet unguarded. you also need to ensure PC A is on is you need to use the 'net from PC B.

Most routers will act as a F/W aswell and mean you can use the 'net from either PC in safety.

Thinking about it Deano, I think you are right, but also as it would be a better option to keep my old PC as a fileserver and webserver along with the 2 other PC's.
Might see if I can source a router from work
