Depends on what u wanna spend. If money is no object, then get one of the hybrid ones like the Sony one, which supports all formats.
If u r constrained, then Ricoh do +RW/+R format one for £200 (£170 in the PCworld sale if u can get there before tomorrow)

here is an idea of the prices but i think the sony is cheaper elsewhere,
example of media prices here
i rip movies to cheap disks and have no problem on my denon player there is only compatability issues with the xbox for a dvd player you have to change the udf for it to work

I have a sony dru-500a took ages to find one as they are hard to come by. burns dvd-r/rw (4x) , dvd+r/rw (2.4x), cdr/cdrw (24/10) great drive so far.
Regarding compatibility, I would proberbly go with dvd-r as these discs play in the xbox ps/2 etc. unlike dvd+r which wont play in my panasonic dvd player, or ps/2 or xbox.
