michael_clarkson, is that Sun as in the accounting software?
If so I might send you an E-mail if that is okay, we are about to spend about 50k on one of your packages

Sun ONE DS5.1 is Suns Directory Server (LDAP based).
I'm an LDAP directory deployment specialist, but not specifically a Sun ONE DS5.1 expert, but I might be able to help, depends on the questions really. I have some Sun ONE DS5.1 knowledge as I am currently reponsible for deploying it for a large government org.

michael_clarkson: Yes I know about Sun and Sun ONE, but the question is specifically about Directory Server 5.1. Directory Server is the LDAP 3 compliant central repository for storing authentication and user authorization (along with possibly corporate information). It runs on multiple system types (NT, Solaris, Linux, HP-UX etc). It can talk to other LDAP compliant environments and interchange LDAP format data in LDIF files.

snowcrash: You may also require Sun One Meta-Directory 5.0, to provide a single aggregate of the account details, as this can also integrate with databases and applications. So if you have for example an internal phone list app currently using Oracle it could be adapted to use LDAP to obtain the info.

Isn't Sun ONE Directory server, just the latest version of what was iPlanet/Netscape D/S ? So, the same functionality/compatibility applies..? Dunno if that helps.
