Unix System Administrator book recommendations?
O'Reilly books
If it wasn't for them, I would never have know a thing about a 'Peofowl', the largest bird in the Phasianinae family, which also inclused pheasants and turkeys.
They've done more for me than Animal program with Johnathan Morris pretending to be an animal each week

Thanks folks, just came back from the local bookstore armed with the Essential System Administration (O'Reilly) and Tru64 Unix System Administrator Guide (Digital Press).
Guess what I'll be doing this weekend?

I need to get hold of a decent book on system administration and would be grateful for any recommendations. I want something on an intermediate level as I have about 20yrs (non-Unix) IT experience and I'm fairly familiar with all the common *ix commands (ls, pwd, vi, ps, kill, cat, man, mv, cp etc. etc.)
I need to know stuff like mounting devices, assigning user permissions (like when I login from a telnet session I can't delete ex-user files 'cos I don't have permissions - even as a member of the sysadmin group), and maybe a guide to re-installing the o/s as there are some things which should be working but aren't (i.e. dxaccounts only runs from a terminal session on the server but not from within the windowing environment which is running on there).
What I'm after is something one or two steps up from "Unix for Dummies". If it's any help, we're running Tru64 on a Compaq AlphaServer - I've inherited the machine which wasn't being used a lot (so I can reset the thing) but I intend to put it to a lot more use hence the thirst for more knowledge.
Thanks in advance...all help gratefully received !

Essential System Adminstration - the 0'Reilly one is as good a star as any. It is generic though. Unix power tools is also good
You might want to get on specifically for the OS too. All mine are Linux or Solaris, so I can't recommend - sorry.
