Question

Ok - I've now sorted the ADSL modem problem - some software conflict .... by reinstalling a new version of Windows 2000...
It said it was formatting the hard disk as I requested - (I have 2 HDD)... Now there appears to be 2 windows 2000 systems which you can choose from booy up....? My original C drive contents are still there while the new OS is on drive D (ie WINNT directory is on C: and D...
Any way that I can get rid of the old installation of W2000 without getting rid of my other programs on C: drive ?

This is getting more confusing by the hour

hmmm... me a bit confuse as well. your original HDD is A, but adsl didnt work on that, so you install a new w2k on HDD B and got adsl working.

now, did you remove HDD A to install w2k on HDD B? or did you install w2k on HDD B with HDD A being the primary boot HDD?

is HDD A your C:\ and HDD B your D:\ ?

i hope i am not making it more confusing!!!

Suba,

Got it in one - you must be in mensa
Exactly as you state. The new Window 2000 is on D: (c: is the primary boot)... hence the option (I think) at start up to select which OS to use W2000 C: or W2000 D:

Confusing isnt it ! - anyhow - any chance of getting rid of the old OS ?

must be playing with the cats that made my brain work!

ok, here's what you can do.....

depending on which HDD is faster/better/newer, use that as your C:\ (primary/master boot) and the other one as D:\ (secondary/slave).

so copy all your data/files from your HDD A and B (or vice versa) depending on which HDD you wanna make it as C:\. then format and re-install w2k (yes, again!) on the faster/better/newer HDD.

you can use the D:\ as a backup drive, copying data/files on both C:\ and D:\.

btw, swap HDD B to be C:\ and HDD A to D:\ will need removing the case over to do the jumper settings on the HDD. the HDD should have label or instruction on setting the jumpers.

What you suggest is logical - I was hoping there may be a short cut way of doing it - without reinstallation - since all of the rest of my programs are on the C/primary drive !?

Gastro - confused

Partition Magic may do the trick, it will allow you to merge sessions on the fly, however I would want to rename or delete all windows system dirs first on the unwanted partition.
If you need a copy drop me a mail.
