I am using the above modem for my PC and unlike most other modems, there is no phone line out from the modem if you want to run a phone in parallel. So have to use a 2-way splitter at the line junction box. Problem is, if I do that, the modem transfer speed degrades drastically and instead of a double digit (30k+) speed, it drops to low single digit (<5k). I have tried different splitters, but still the same. What could be the problem? I had an older 33.6K Blue Thunder modem before and it worked happily with the phone running from the phone-out jack.
Thanks and regards.

At the risk of seeming facetious, bearing in mind the cost of modems these days, why not junk that one & get one with an on-board phone socket?

US Robotics is supposedly one of the better brand in the market, so until I find out why it is not compatible with a phone in parallel unlike other brands, I'll like to try other solutions first. I have tried running the splitter at different locations, e.g. at the phone line plug in and the modem plug in, but made no difference. I know that using a phone in parallel may reduce the voltage on the line, but this shouldn't be the case if the phone is not in use, i.e. handset is not lifted up. Maybe I should try another phone set and see what happens. Thanks.
