If you can get NTL then you probably wont be able to get Telewest/Blueyonder as it is an either or situation.

I have blueyonder and can fully recommend them. Had BTOpenworld before and blueyonder are much better.

if you can get NTL there, might as well get broadband from them. you can get 128k for £15/month! the next up is 600k.

I've had two hours outage in 3 months with NTL. And that was a problem affecting only me that they came out at 8pm to repair. If that 'Sucks' then I can only imagine that 'Sucks' is a compliment.

I've been with NTL for 2 years now. I was one of the first (Woking area). In that time I've only had 4 outages. All 4 outages lasted less than 4 hours. One of the outages was due to a localised power cut on my estate (which took out the NTL box in the street). Another power cut was down to a flood taking out the local NTL network centre. So really there are only 2 outages I can 'blame' NTL for. I'd say that's pretty good really. I have friends on BT ADSL who are always moaning they had a problem, and of course they have to "dial out" for the service, mine is always on and gives me other benefits like digital radio and TV.
I know some people have had bad experiences with NTL, but I've been happy with the service.

Question

i'm with NTL at the moment (not BB), from Jan the fee goes up from £5 per month to £10 so i was thinking of getting broadband for an extra £5.
Questions are
do i keep the same email address?
do i have a seperate line for the net so i can use the phone at the same time?
is it a case of them swapping phone line in at the back of computer and plugging in their own modem?

Cheers

Not sure about your email address although your present one is in the same format. Broadband from NTL does not use the telephone line.

Jack,

I've had NTL broad band since it was available in our area (over 2 years) and have had endless problems. Therefore you might say that the word 'Sucks' is not a compliment. However your sarcastic remark did make me laugh 3 months is hardly enough time to make a valid opinion of a service really!

I'm on NTL here in Southampton and so far no probs. I use the USB/settopbox system and it comes out very well on the broadband tester.
You can get 128 for about £15, 600 for £23ish or 1000 for £35ish and you can change speeds up or down if you like. My mate has gone from 600 to 128 due to excessive skintness and hasn't noticed all that much difference, depends what you use it for though.

Cool

I'm on 600k ntl at the moment. Been with ntl internet for a few years now and can't fault the service.

Had a few problems with the quality of the tv broadcasts and ended up having it taken out and SKY put in.

I noticed a big difference between the 128k and 600k service but I do loads of downloads, for general browsing 128k would be fine.
On 2 wire's bandwith meter I used to get around 125k with the 128k service and get around 550k on the 600k service (On dial up get about 42k).

If you have two phone line's and pay £10 dial up broadband will work out cheaper if you ditch a phone line.

Edited to add for Robby,

You keep all your emails and logins when upgrading to broadband. You don't use a phone line at all but a modem that is connected digitaly to ntl's fibre network. The modem logs onto ntl's service and is connected while ever it has power on it. The modem connects to your pc by LAN or USB. You never have to log on to the net just click on the Explorer Icon and there it is.
As you are always omline a good firewall is a must.

Cheers
Lee

Ditto the comments about NTL. 2 years on 512K/600K and 3 outages in that time. 2 were down to NTL and resolved within 2 hours, t'other was down to my left foot kicking the CM plug out of the mains socket

Speed has slowed down since it became so popular - more users on the local node so have to share the resources. (Was the only one on local node when I first connected, so had all that bandwidth to myself

Just need to justify the extra tenner a month to switch to 1 meg.
