Any suggestions??

What input card, triggering? recording? (dont really want to spend loads of money... just have a look at replacing the old video that does it at the moment)

Good idea, but I'd be worried about the amount of disk space needed.

My new digi camcorder can output at Full DV quality and a 60min tape takes about 15Gb of space.

How the heck does the Tivo managed to capture TV quality images onto disk? some form of MPEG compression?

Are you looking for a Linux or Windows solution ?

I have an old P100 with a capture card which I've been playing with various Linux utilities on. I couldnt find a single app to do everything I wanted so the project has been "on hold" for a while. Recently I came across ZoneMinder which looks very promising. Its on the list of things to have a play with .......

Just thought I would add that I am looking at recording my car at night

My sisters Husband just phoned me up to let me know he has just got back from the cop shop, as some toe rags damaged his car last night, and he videos his car every night (not a scoob a Focus Estate)

He took the vid down to the police station, and they are using it now to try and identify the idiots

Steve

I've got a external Cam with 12 LED's (for night vision) all for £70. Just have to go to http://www.cctv-centre.co.uk/cctv/multicam.htm and get the capture card and software.

looks a bit expensive looking, if you know what I mean...

I want something cheap but so I can have three / four possibly more cameras recording to disk... (only when something is detected) but was looking for a cheap way of getting the camera's signal into the pc...

Yeah, not the cheapest, although the Axis webcams take 10/100 Ethernet straight into the back. All IP driven with a built in web server.

We've got a demo one in our cupboard somewhere I think.

I just went to B & Q and got myself a B & W CCTV with Sound too

29 quid bargain, comes with scart lead, and 17 metres of cabling, and wall bracket

Also got 6 leds built in for night time, and im not kidding but the night time image is better than the daylight one

Happy Sleeping for me now
