Contract expires today and I start a perm job on the 6 January. With current rates out there I won't be too bad off and I do get big bank benefits.
I'm extremely grateful to have a perm job to go to but I'm also gutted that I won't be my own boss anymore. I've been a contractor for 11 years and almost feel like I'm throwing the towel in. I'm keeping the company, just mothballing for the future.
Anyone else made the switch who has felt strangely attached to your IOD certificate and the supposed independence?

You may be doing the right thing m8. Depending what field your in.
I can see IT going down the tubes big style in this country.
Upper management seem to invest in useless systems that they get to try and do everything , and once built do not invest in the staff to support them. Most companies now, employ less staff & ask them to do more jobs. once this slump is over, if it gets over.
And if all of a sudden there are umpteen projects on the go that
have been put on hold... there may not be the bods around to carry them out. They'll be stacking shelves in ASDA cos it pays more.
