Hi all,
I'm running a broadband internet access, currently using Zone Alarm Pro as a firewall.
I don't have a virus checker, so can anyone recommend a suitable package to download - ideally freeware.
thanks in advance
Ian

If you're worried about viruses then get Antivirus software from an Antivirus company.

F-Prot is free and from a reputable source. Do a search on Google and it'll pop up for you.

I use AVG... it's free, and it seems to be fine. Has picked up all the viruses that have come in on my email so far.

Sorry, but have to disagree with Mcafee....cr*p to say the least, how you trust a compnay who gives you 'free' updates and release the fixes late !

.SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..S OPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOP HOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHO S..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS. .SOPHOS..SOPHOS.......oh and .SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS..SOPHOS.

Christmas Eve as well!!

Mr Petrol-Head, for a start, we don't give free updates, you pay for them when you buy the software, then you pay again when your licence runs out. If by 'release the fixes late' you mean we're late adding new viruses to our collection then think again, I can give you a list of posting times from the last year or so and I don't think you'll see Sophos in the top ten. They don't have POO in their name for nothing you know. Great marketing, average product.

I was praising SOPHOS ! i think it's great.
Just don't like Macfee ! i've had so many problems with it. Dr Solomans was better until they were bought out. Freezing under Win95 & 98....WinNT4

Sorry but i've worked at several companies that had Mcafee and changed after a while. I'm sure we all have out preferences to software and if we have problems with certain software we tend to stay away.

I not saying NAI produce rubbish software...on the contrary i use your anti spamming software. But i stay away from their virus software.....trying to dig myself out a this hole !!!

Sorry if i offended....none was intended.

I've been on the receiving end of very poor service from Macafee - especially when they took over Dr Solomon's. They managed to lose my subscription and then got very sh**** with me when I complained.

I know things get messy during takeovers but there is no need to take such things out on paying customers.

I've used Norton AntiVirus since and am very pleased with it.

A company needs a good product and good customer service to keep customer's happy. I don't use companies who fail in the latter department.

I've influenced many corporate virus solutions away from Macafee over the years.

Shame that. Perhaps you shouldn't dwell on the past so much. I know it was messy when the majority of Dr Solomon staff took the/your money and ran, but a lot of us stayed and cleared up the mess. Don't forget that was over 4 years ago, Viruses and *most* Antivirus software have changed greatly since then.

Personally I'd rather you used Sophos than Symantec, at least they have more than a Sales and Marketing office in the UK. Then again Sophos are having trouble developing products to keep up with IT demands, so it's swings and roundabouts I guess.

FFS, why are you muppets promoting pirating software? Born stupid or what?

If you want to discuss that, then email the person offline. There are things that you do and don't do on a public forum. 1 of the things not to do is promote obtaining illegal copies of software. Please use your brain when you engage your keyboard. Sheesh.......

Rant over, sorry.

Now, as for av stuff, I don't like mcafee personally, or sophos or Norton av2002/2003. My personal choice is AV2001. Reason? Because with only one little updated file, it works fine under XP and it hasn't had all of the useful options taken out, unlike the 'moron-proof' 2002 and 2003. I don't like my pc scanning all things at all times, slowing it down nicely, despite me knowing full well that all those files are clean. Has never let me down on the detection of viruses and I like being able to tell it to only scan new stuff.

Cheers,

Nick

There are guys here that trust products they're putting to you
Ian. I would advise you to go for a product that is easy to use, that will give u regular updates (weekly).
The big guns all do the regular updates.McAffe, Norton..
You just have to look at the price u want to pay.
I bought e-trust,previously Innoculate for $20; unludes the
program and a years subscription (weekly dat updates).
Pays your money takes your choice.
I would not go for a freebee that will not supply
the regular updates.
Cheers
