Burning Word to CD- please help
#1
My first post on this forum!
Anyways, I got a CD Writer mainly to use like a big floppy disk- great for storing photos on. Only thing is, I also use it for storing a lot of Word documents, but if I open the files from CD they are Read Only. This is only of limited use for me. Do I have something on a wrong setting, or do 'they all do this sir'?
Help would be much appreciated.

Open the Word doc from the CD, save it to HDD, then you will be able to edit it.
Reason its read only as it can't be saved to CD automatically after you have edited it

Thanks guys.
I had already tried that mega_stream, but did it again & it now all seems to be working as expected. The only difference is that I have since saved everything to a different disc (another CD-Rw). I supppose it could have been a duff disc (or user- I'll say it before anyone else does)

this is an attributes thing - once the file is written to a cd or dvd, it becomes read only. If you then copy it back from cd, you must manually adjust the read only attribute.
In explorer, right click on the file (on the hard drive) and choose properties, then deselect the read only option - you can now edit and save the file.

With Windows XP you can use the CDRW as a floppy-like substitute, and the files should stay editable ...
I haven't tried this, but from what I've read it's more than possible using the built in CDR/CDRW compatibility of XP
FOr more info try the Microsoft website, surprisingly useful!
