Question

Hello All,

I spend all day on the phone telling people how to fix their corporate LANS, etc, but have never got round to gaming

Christmas is coming and my two brothers and I are all going to my folks and will be setting up a LAN for the purpose of kicking each others butt

Problem is, what games to buy?

PC spec is quite low and it will be a 10/100 network with a hub (no switch) so no games than need super computers please. Can you recommend some good games for us novices to have fun with, not just first person shoot em ups but other types too

Cheers, Jon

Question

Burn them to CD?

I have just found a 70.0MB download demo of Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds and am downloading that - any good?

Most popular game on the internet and at lan sessions....

http://www.counter-strike.net/

either pop into game and by half-life for £10 and download counter-strike from the web site above or spend £20 and get Half-life generations pack which includes Half-Life, Counter-Strike as well as a few other Half-Life based games.

Another game to consider is Unreal Tournement, a few years old but still popular now.

Doom, Duke Nukem and Quake were the biz all those years ago on the original Pentium PCs. The first time I saw Quake 2 played through a 3DFX card was a revelation.

Half-life all variations, Unreal tournament, I'd guess Quake 3 and UT2003 probably won't run that well if you haven't got all singing and dancing PC's, maybe the likes of commmand and conquer, red alert etc, or an all time classic total annihilation, why haven't cavedog developed this any further...

what spec id the pc ? if its old ie p2 233 or slower then play the following games should run fine :

Redalert
duke numkem 3d
age of empires

If u have a p2 300 with a fast 3d graphics card
then previous games + the following

Unreal Toournemnet
Halflife /counter strike <---- BRILLIANT on line!
screamer rally
Toca

If you have a megapc ie 1.4ghz or faster with high end graphics card then :
v8 rally challenge
Micrsoft rally
Unreal 2003T
Age of empires 2 / redalert 2
combat flight sim 3

and my fav game still of all time Conterstrike!

happy gaming!

Rise of the triad........

Ah, now there was a truly class game and was great when it was released. Spent sooo much time on that and loved it to bits. I still try to download it occasionally nowadays, just havent found a complete version yet, but haven't looked too hard tbh.

Battlefield 1942 is absolutely class online, great as multiplayer and my clan ain't too bad at it either

Cheers,

Nick

Why not Doom, Quake I, Duke 3D or any of the original FPS games?
