right, I want to pull out the info from Notes v5 database into csv format, fields/data must also include smtp(obviously)aliases/secondary smtp in exchange, username, forwarding options etc & passwords(would be nice).
I know there are 3rd party apps that do some of these functions (although I have never used any), can you advise what software to go for or another way to do it.
any help appreciated as I am an Exchange guy as you know, not Lotus Bloates

PNAB (Public Names and Address Book) is the database which effectively is the "directory", the filename is usually called names.nsf[1] with the title within Notes as <OrgName>'s Address Book on <servername>.
If it is the PNAB, getting the data out shouldn't be too hard, except for the passwords. However, if it's a custom database that may be harder.
Notes security is very strong. Unlike Exchange which uses the logon authenication, Notes uses a system of public (stored in the PNAB) and private (stored in the <username>.id file) keys and hence the Notes password is not stored in a easily cracked format. In fact, after working with Notes for five years, I've still yet to hear of the Notes encryption being broken.
[1] At least if it isn't, that can lead to some weird behaviour. As we discovered....
