looks like it's time to chip my PS2 so I can play .avi files etc using the new player that was released.

so can anyone recommend:

a) which chip to get
b) someone reputable to install it for me?

Closer to leeds the better so I don't have to post it!

cheers,

greg

You're £40 for the original mod chip including a regionX disk to swap out.
The newer Messiah chip doesn't require the regionX swap. You just pop the copy in and it works. It also plays DVD copy games.
The catch? It's £80. Worth the extra IMO.
Most independant game shops chip PS2s or will send your machine off to someone else to do it.

Cool

Lo Gregh,

Not sure about the DVD burner that corrects the ECC, I just went for it, and hoped that it worked. The PS2 reality media player read me, say's that you have to burn the files in and image, like a BIN file.
I just added the entire contents of the reality player zip, and the avi files direct to CD or DVD and it worked, so it would be woth while trying that to save some time

Magic 2 or 3 is a bit cheaper than Messiah 1 or 2 for chipping your PS2, and does the exact same thing AFAIK.

With Magic 2, just put the game in and it boots it's self.
No swap's needed. It supports all formats, CD-R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW. I have not heard anyone confirming that they have successfully got a DVD+R disc to work on PS2.
Use Direct Connect for PS2 downloads, and you will have saved a packet within 20mins

Sorry mod's, tried to be as discreet as possible
