Mornin

I have a JVC DVL-9500 digital video camera that I'm trying to connect to my pc inorder to down load lots of lovely video of Bedford

The firewire card has installed fine and the cable appears to be ok but Windows XP does not install any drivers for my camera and so it's not recognised by any software.

I've checked and there are no drivers updates so wtf is going on

Anyone managed to get this combo working ?#

Cheers

Mike

Looking at my laptop, the firewire connection is bridged with the LAN. AFAIK, the firewire connection works like a network connection, so you should be able to browse the camera as if it was a networked drive.

I've not used the firewire port, so not sure if I've got this correct, but I'm sure someone will soon correct me if I'm wrong.....

Do you have power applied to the camcorder? On my DVL9000 it doesn't power up the firewire port unless it's on mains power.

Yep power on, switched to play back and I've played some footage so that the Cam sends a signature but nothing.

It's as if XP is blind to the camera.

I'll try a new cable and see that helps I guess

Cheers guys

This Knowledge Base Article seems to indicate support for your camera.

Yeah that's what it doesn't do, XP does not recognise the camera and so does not install the DV driver

also came across this:

http://www.jvc.co.uk/support/updates.html

Photo Navigator (Complete Program). This version of Photo Navigator is compatible with Windows 98/ME/2000/XP (it has not been tested on Windows 95). It can replace JLIP Capture in all situations where there is a problem, but mainly it resolves the XP problem with the standard JLIP Capture. It works with the GR-DVM1 and later, but any device using a separate docking station where JLIP capture is built into the docking station will require two scans to locate each JLIP device.

Right the problem is the firewire card I installed

The VIA chipset on the board is a peice of **** so if you're thinking about getting one of these cards make sure you get one with a TRUST chipset
