What is PASiV mode in FTP?
#2
Standard FTP :-
Client opens TCP control connection to Server.
Server Opens TCP data connection back to Client.
The reverse data connection can screw up a lot of firewalls which dont permit any inbound connections. PASV mode ensures both connections are initiated from the Client to Server. giving fewer hassles with Address Translation/Firewalls/Access-Lists.

Thanks for your replies. Found it at last under Tools, Options, Advanced, Root, Site, "Use passive transfer mode". I guess that's it. And yes it was already on.
The actual problem that prompted my network techy to suggest I set PASiV (actual quote) to on has been fixed now. Turned out to be a permissions issue, nothing to do with my FTP set up.
