Best Laptop for approx £1,000
#1
Hi,
My dad's looking at buying a laptop that he can connect to his mobile phone to use when he's not in his office.
It'd be good if it had a DVD player and CD writer and was also above 1000mhz.
AMD is also a preference but not that important (it can't be an Apple Mac).
And so, what's the best laptop available currently for approx £1,000?
Thanks!
Andy.

Not looked at you link, but Mesh do some reasonable laptops.
Also, take a look at Dell, their laptops take some beating in the VFM stakes too

From my experience in the past, only buy one from a "big" name, ie Toshiba, Sony, Compaq/HP, Dell or IBM. Support and parts will be easier to obtain, ie better web support and more knowledge will be available. For that matter, when it's a bit older and out of warranty, 2nd bits will be easier to get than a smaller make.
Most of the small box shifters buy laptops off the shelf in bulk from big Taiwanese manufacturers, whereas the big boys develop their own machines in house.
I'm looking at a replacement laptop for my Vaio for about £1000 +VAT (have a work supplied Dell Latitude), even though I'd like another Vaio, the Dell Inspiron looks like a pretty unbeatable deal.
