Just comparing SCSI and IDE RAID.

Only thing i can come up with is that SCSI drives run at 10,00RPM +

Do they do anything else!

A summary would be:

more expensive
generally faster
more drives per channel
a complete pain if you get the termination wrong

SCSI tends to outperform IDE when there's a lot of multitasking going on, and with multiple disks. Servers benefit hugely from running with SCSI.

Oh and SCSI works better if you sacrifice a black goat too.

Try putting 15 IDE devices in a chain and see how well they work.

Mark,

You sure it is a black goat ?

I've always sacrificed a hedgehog on a full moon to get all the SCSI tape drives in our server farm to work.

Maybe you are using a different type of SCSI ?

Cheers

I'm sure it's a black goat. And a white goat for ATM. I can't remember what a black cat needs to be sacrificed for

Black cat sacrifice is usually required to get the monkeys in the co-lo to put the correct tapes in the right order in the jukebox.

Hope this helps

Chris,

No, not a black hedgehog, a brown one. I knew all about the termination problems with black ones. I also never cable up anything on the 14th, learnt that one years ago

Cheers

Ian
