What temperature range is okay for an AthlonXP CPU ?
Mine is a 2000+ and is currently operating at 52 degrees. When should I start to panic ?
Thanks

I Would start to get edgy if that is the CPU Temp at rest, they usually heat up by 7-8 degrees if they are loaded and in my opinion 60 degrees is getting close to damage.
I would recommend a Akasa Silver Mountain Fan and Heatsink as I have an overclocked 1700+ XP running faster that a 2000+ all on the FSB and that runs at 52 degrees under full load.

Mine is regularly about 50c and that is with multiple fans, blowholes, copper coolers - the works! You have nowt to worry about at that temperature. As I am currently in Cyprus, I've seen mine go to 65c and although high and I wouldn't recommend sustained usage at that temp, it doesn't do any damage.
Hi DJ Dunk,
I've got an Athalon XP2100+ & mine runs at 32c idle and 38c on full load.
I would recomend you get a Thermaltake Smart & Silent Volcano 9
Specs at www.thermaltake.com/products/heatsink/v9.htm
and some Articsilver 3 Thermal compound.
Specs at www.articsilver.com/as3.htm
Oh yeah, and a well-ventilated case.
Mine has two 80mm fans in the front, two at the rear and one on the side + 2 in the PSU
Not to noisy as the fans are all temperature controlled
Cheers,
Rob

""given that the maximum possible die temp before damage is 90 degrees i rekon its well within limits despite the other comments here""
90' was for athlons not XPs, Xps are lower, i'll dig out the figures when im back at work...

32C mobo and 35C cpu a roughly idle here XP 2200+ on an Asus A7V8X, doesn't get above 40C fully loaded.
Thermalright SLK-800 with 80mm fan on with some coolermaster thermal compound.
Also well ventilated case, Coolermaster ATC-710:
One 80mm intake, two 80mm exhaust and twin fan 431W Enermax PSU, yes it needs another intake really
Not too noisy as they're 'quiet' pabst fans.
