Question

My imac crashed out last night! Was running os 8.6. Will only boot from cd disc. Problem is I only have the original os 8.0 disc that came with the machine over 3 years ago to hand.
A friend of mine is going to lend me os 9.1 original disc. Can i boot from this and load the newer os over the top of the old one?
Anyone help?
Cheers,
Mark.

have you tried booting in "Safe" mode?

I'm pretty sure you can do this, but not 100% - my Mac hasn't crashed in 3 years!!!

Best of luck

safe mode? Assume you mean 'hold down shift key' when you turn it on. Should turn off all extensions.

Should be able to go from 8.6 to 9 with the install CD. Persoanlly I'd go to 9.2.2, which is the latest OS you can get. If you don't know where to get 9.2.2 then drop me an email (see my profile).

"All extensions OFF" - THAT's what I meant!!!

Haven't used it in a while

Might also be worth zapping the P-Ram (Apple key and PR whilst booting???? - Markus!!!!)

Def. go to 9.2.2 GREAT OS
