A mates bird wants to buy him one for christmas.. whats the cheapest place to get one from?

Lowest I've seen so far is 116 inc vat.

BTW, bear in mind that buying a CDRW any quicker than about 4x is completely pointless if it's USB, simply because USB can't handle data transmission any faster than that.

If you want to burn at 16x and read faster too, you'll need USB2 or Firewire (1394).

AFAIK these are USB2.0

What speed is usb2 is it 12mbps*

** And dont start with Mb and mb etc

no, no, no, no, no...

USB2 is 480mbit and firewire is 400mbit. but in theory, both are neck and neck.

I can do cheaper.
Buy one of my Creative 16x cdwriters and a vipower ext 5¼ USB2 housing will equate to about £65 plus the vat i think.
Or if you wish I have some Philips 8x or 12 x CDRW left bringing the cost down a little more.
