The long lead time sounds a little suspicious, but they are cheaper.

BTW, bear in mind that buying a CDRW any quicker than about 4x is completely pointless if it's USB, simply because USB can't handle data transmission any faster than that.

If you want to burn at 16x and read faster too, you'll need USB2 or Firewire (1394).

David_Wallis 20 November 2002 07:20 PM

AFAIK these are USB2.0

What speed is usb2 is it 12mbps*

** And dont start with Mb and mb etc

no, no, no, no, no...

USB2 is 480mbit and firewire is 400mbit. but in theory, both are neck and neck.

mccltd 23 November 2002 11:06 PM

I can do cheaper.
Buy one of my Creative 16x cdwriters and a vipower ext 5¼ USB2 housing will equate to about £65 plus the vat i think.
Or if you wish I have some Philips 8x or 12 x CDRW left bringing the cost down a little more.
Chek me out at www.medwaycomputers.co.uk and if interested give me a bell during the week.

Dave.
