can you recommend the best/easiest software for splitting avi movies ?
I appreciate that nero will allow you to drop an avi into it & convert to mpg to watch on dvd...
BUT, what about if the avi is 700 meg.
I have Roxio but it is finnickey & takes a long time to convert & split the avi's.

any help appreciated (no paper MCSE's though)

Its easy. Read the feckin page and email me if you're still stuck

Never had a problem spitting a file with it yet. No sync problems either. Convert to mpeg first and away you go.

just checked that link andy, thats exactly what I did, but it didn't like the avi file, wonder if it's corrupt
also if it needs the .wav file then I have to extract that first...thats what I do anyway with roxio.....
why is everything that's enjoyable (watching films) so bl00dy complicated!!!

Doesn't need a wav file, just supply the avi for both the video and audio mate.

But seriously mate, its pretty easy really. Just make sure your avi actually works first eh If it plays okay in WMP then its probably alright.

Are you converting to VCD, SVCD or keeping as DivX ?

Both mate Loads of films, loads of games, loads of vinyl. Vinyls my first love, but I can't resist tinkering with the latest technology and exploiting copyrights as much as possible

Thats my life really, although the GF would go mad if she heard that

Oh . . and I work occasionally

You could always try this too.

Personlly, I just record my divx files to VCR and watch them on the telly. Much less hassle than messing about with svcd etc.

Thats one of the reasons I want the big HDD in the x-box too, a portable video library

No, tmpgenc will just allow you to convert to SVCD compatible mpeg and then let you split the file into pieces that will fit on a CDR. I used to stick to files of around 60 mins (VCD).

Actually, its changed a lot since I last used it. Looks like you can make it split the file up automatically to suit your CDR size
