Which is the best console to buy?
for games, dvd playing, value, quality?
thinking of buying one of them this week

Xbox is state of the art, FACT. The XBox hardware is ahead of it's time, in that the developers of the games are only just getting their acts together. However, by Xmas there will be some good games out there. The DVD is excellent and if you take it to a local computer fair, I'm sure they will modify it for you so you can play your backed-up XBox games (if you know what I mean) and multi-region DVD's.

My lads have both and they rarely use the PS2 now...

Also, don't buy new if you can get a second hand one from an Ad-Mag. The price of the hardware is falling rapidly. If you have broadband, go online for free at www.xbconnect.com for up to 16 players on Halo (Game of the century)

Bought mine as a DVD for wifey (so she can watch DVDs in bed - she preggers!)

BEST console I've ever had In some respects, even better than my PC (and that aint slow either!)

Get one - you won't be disappointed. Especially with the new games coming out....

That's exactly what I'm thinking of doing too, only I get to play the games when she falls asleep....

 

so was the N64 when it came it out, everyone knows that having the best hardware is no guarantee of success, that said M$ will probably spend and spend until they get it right but the constant price drops although good for consumers basically mean they are struggling to sell (IMHO before I get flamed!)

Yeah, but you can't dis the facts.
And the fact say everybody I know had got rid of their PS2 to get an XBox
So much so the local GAME/EB shop has cheap 2nd hand PS2's for sale.

Had an Xbox since day 1 and its worth it for Halo alone - possibly the best game out there IMHO. Was up til 3am in the morning on several occaisons playing Halo until complete then started again on Legendary

With stuff like Morrowind, UT Championship and Yager coming out the Xbox is state of the art hardware thats starting to gather some serious momentum, no contest IMHO.

hey, what we need on here is a 'games swap' forum, i've got 7 for the xbox now and wouldnt mind swapping at least 4 of them for something else.

PS2 is still the number one seller though I think that speaks volumes

 

PS2 had a years head start on the X-Box, that speaks volumes too

 

A chap in Game told me that the Gamecubes were outselling the X-Boxs, ever since it's release! Does that speak volumes???

 

If I were buying a console just for games, I'd get a Gamecube!

If I needed a DVD player as well as a console, I'd get a PS2, purely for the huge back catalogue!

I have both and a DVD player! I'm greedy I guess!

 

Not any more there not Andy .. official figures by someone said so ( i cant remeber who , but trust me the Xbox is now selling more than GC .. but still less than PS2

 

My advice is before you make a final decision, take a look at the games on offer and what you think would suit you the best.

I was pondering the same a few months ago, then got offered a chipped PS2, a couple of backed up games () and a bag full of PS1 games for £100. Job did!!!

I've never tried a Xbox, so don't know what i'm missing, and don't really care!

xbox !! ive got 1 with the bigger hard drive fitted and theres now 26 games on it much better than playstation give it time the games that are coming out are superb

 

Gamecube might be outselling the XBox (probably becuase of the cheapness of it) but with the latest *xbox and 2 games for £160* deal that'll turn things around.
And beside's there's nowhere near the number of quality games for the 'cube than there is for the xbox (I know, I own both!)
Mind you the cube is better for I.C.E. use (than the dodgly-old psone) and more compact to take on holiday with you.
I don't fancy lugging the xbox over to my mates house for lan gaming on a regular basis.

Xbox is the best platform but PS2 still wins it purely on the number of games you can get for it. (I own only a GC before u accuse me of being bias). GTA:Vice City is one reason to buy the PS2.

 

Check out the deals at toys R Us on the xbox. Managed to pick up console, second controller, the two free boxed games, Dead or alive 3, mad trax racing and colin mcrae 3 for £240.

Tried both consoles with CM3 and went for the xbox as the gameplay was beter IMHO.

lol, gave my ps2 to my sis as I never played it.

will no doubt do the same with the x box too unless it inspires me.

waiting for the on;line bit to come out.

can someone explain when that will be, what will be required, etc?

already have adsl wireless lan running in my flat but only .5gig
