Be getting my xbox soon . I will be testing the various different ways to connect the console up to broadband - either direct, via router/PC or wirelessly.

Are xbox guys providing you with software to install on your PC?

xbox does have an Ethernet port built-in. Presume richard was referring to have to install a network card in his PC so his xbox can access his broadband connection.

If you have a cable modem you don't need a NIC, you can connect the ethernet cable straight from your X-Box to the CM. Just make sure you pull the power cord from the CM for a couple of minutes, so it loses the PC's ip address (i think that's why it's done). You only need a NIC if you want to connect your pc to your CM via ethernet & not USB.

MotoGP with 16 human players is amazing. (too many Yanks though)

Regards

Daz

If you have it routed through your PC via a network card then your options are greater. For a start, you don't have to pay for the privilage if you use www.xbconnect.com (free) for online gaming and they have been doing it for over 6 months.

Also, a modified box will work just as well as an unmodified box.

Does it have to be through the PC? I thought you just had to have a PC on the Network.

I doesn't have to be through a PC. A straight ethernet connection from the modem will suffice. Just remember to reset the modem so it picks up the new IP address.

if you use xbconnect then you need to install a software tunnel to get it to work, but the experience is first class cos you can whose playing, chatting, hosting, joining etc independantly of the xbox

more control = more free fun
