I'm after a deskptop replacement in the form of a powerful laptop.

Main tasks will be: .net programming, games + all the other usual stuff.

I've seen a few that take my interest and one that I'm gonna get.
Its the Mesh Ultima 15.7 pro. The one with the 7500 ATI Radaeon Mobility card.

1)What are peoples views on this brand?
2)And has anyone experienced the 3d power of this laptop?
Any more advice would be welcome.

The Compaq Evo N800c was designed from the ground up as a desktop replacement. The idea was to create a laptop that could be used as either a workstation in a docking station or as a mobile server for demos.

IIRC it uses a full desktop P4 rather than the lower power/cache P4 mobile processors.

Bal,

Ive got a 7500 in my p4 2.2 machine, Im not a huge gamer but Ive run stuff like Dungeon Siege, GTA3 and the like and everything runs very well. Mines an ACI and it really is a desktop replacement, trouble is it feels that way when you carry it as well !

Talking

Ive just bought a Dell Inspiron 8200 with the Gforce4 to go graphics card and 64MB of ram. (Its a 1.7Ghz processor.)

I have it running Return to Castle Wolfenstein/Medal of Honour (AA) and return to Nakatomi Plasa. They all work perfectly and especially MOHAA is very graphic intensive.
I would recommend one.
As has been said the Sony has no back up, I bought one (Vaio AMD 1.5) 2 months ago with a rage mobility 16MB graphics card and it would NOT run any of the games above. It also did not have an infra red port which I always use with my mobile phone so I sent it back to the supplier as I had specified it should play games. However, I did really like it.

My advice is to spec the graphics card high to ensure that you have no problems gaming. The ATI 7500 or the Gforce4 (not the 2) are at least the ones to go for in laptop land.
